DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
The Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, formed on January 1, 2006, had a productive and successful 2007. Both of the schools in the college continue to be national leaders, competing well with peer schools for top students and faculty. The goal of the university, shared by its alumni, is to see the academic programs in the ConocoPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics and the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering continue among the elite programs in the world. To achieve this goal, the college launched a capital campaign in November of 2006. As of November 2007, nearly $34 million has been contributed toward the $80 million goal.

The leadership and generosity of Curtis Mewbourne, a 1958 graduate of OU’s Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering, has been a driving factor in scholarship and fellowship giving. Mr. Mewbourne has agreed to match all undergraduate scholarship and graduate fellowship gifts given by individual donors to the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy through March 31, 2008.
Since November, the gifts of over 800 individuals have been doubled through the Mewbourne Match. Many donors have been motivated in knowing their gift can be doubled and have even a greater impact in the educational lives of student scholarship and fellowship recipients.
It is not too late to support the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy Capital Campaign and have your gift matched. For more information on development opportunities, please contact John W. Ritz, Assistant Dean for External Affairs, at jwritz@ou.edu or Joanna M. Robinson, Director of Development at jrobinson@ou.edu. They can both be reached at (405) 325-3821.
