Help The Aggies Beat
The Longhorns
Before the big game on Thanksgiving Day, there's another battle going on between rivals. Texas A&M and U.T. are going head-to-head to see which university's alumni can achieve a higher amount of fundraising participation in one |
month. Your financial gift not only helps A&M beat U.T., it builds on The Association's mission to strengthen Texas A&M. Last year, The Association of Former Students awarded more than $2 million in scholarships and financial aid and gave more than $3.1 million to support academics, student activities and Aggie traditions. And every $20 that you donate enters you for a chance to win two tickets to the Texas A&M vs. U.T. game. |
The Association's Moving Day
The Association of Former Students is moving back to the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center on Dec. 15. After 10 months with staffers in a temporary location, the building is almost ready for The Association team to move back in. The enhancement projects enable the building to continue to serve a former student and current student base that is much larger than when the building was first built. Some projects, like the displays of Texas A&M history, are not complete, and work inside the building will continue throughout the next year.
Orange & Maroon
Legislative Day |
|
Aggies and Longhorns will come together March 3 on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol to rally for long-term, reliable and sustainable funding for both universities. Former A&M students, current administrators, and the Longhorn counterparts of each will meet with state legislators in Austin to inform them of the challenges these two universities face. This is the fourth Orange & Maroon Legislative Day the two universities have hosted.
Aggie Ring Day
More than 1,800 students received their Aggie Rings Nov. 14 at G. Rollie White Coliseum. Ring Day started with yell practice at the front entrance of G. Rollie White, followed by music, refreshments, free Slovacek sausages, free Shivers snowcones and the arrival of Bus 12.
Did You Get Your Copy Of True Maroon?

Settlement Reached In Bonfire Lawsuit
 |
On Oct. 28, Texas A&M reached an agreement with several families of those killed in the 1999 bonfire collapse. Texas A&M will pay $2.1 million—$500,000 of the settlement coming from the University, and the rest coming from the Texas Aggie Bonfire Committee and several individuals who were named in the suit. The largest amount of money a public institution can legally pay under state law is $500,000. Twelve Aggies died Nov. 18, 1999, when the stack |
collapsed. University President Dr. Elsa Murano said no decision has yet been made on whether bonfire should be brought back to campus

Sea Aggies Prepare
To Return To Galveston
In September, damage from Hurricane Ike temporarily closed Texas A&M-Galveston and brought more than 1,500 Sea Aggies to College Station to complete the semester. Now, TAMU-Galveston students are preparing to move back home to Pelican Island. Officials say TAMU-Galveston will be back on the Mitchell Campus for the spring 2009 semester. The Association of Former Students allocated $200,000 to assist TAMU-Galveston students displaced by the hurricane.
MSC To Close For
Renovation, Expansion
The Memorial Student Center will be vacated by Aug. 5, 2009, and will remain closed until fall 2012 as a part of the MSC Renovation and Expansion Project. Last fall, students voted to increase student fees by $60 a semester to help raise funds for the project. The renovations include enclosing the breezeway between the MSC and Rudder Tower, increasing meeting and dining space, enlarging the ballroom, replacing pipes and bringing the building up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Texas A&M Men's Basketball in H-Town Holiday Shootout
